Emily Shields, Executive Director
Prior to coming to IACC, Emily served as Chief of Staff of the Rebuild Iowa Office, a state agency created to coordinate Iowa's recovery from the 2008 disasters. Prior to developing the Rebuild Iowa Office, Emily served as the Senate Liaison and Policy Adviser to Governor Chet Culver handling the Governor's office communications with the Iowa Senate and providing leadership in policy areas such as education and civil rights. Emily also worked in field organizing and fundraising for campaigns including the Chet Culver Committee, John Kerry for President and for the Democratic National Committee.
Emily is a graduate of the University of Iowa where she majored in journalism and political science. After graduation she spent a year as an AmeriCorps VISTA in the Center for Service-Learning and Volunteerism at Our Lady of the Lake University in San Antonio, Texas. In 2010, Emily was recognized by the Des Moines Business Record Forty Under 40 and was a class member in the 2009-2010 Association of Business and Industry Leadership Iowa Program. In 2008, she was a recipient of the Governor's Excellence Award.
Colin Studer, 2012-2013 AmeriCorps VISTA Leader
Colin comes to Iowa Campus Compact from Iowa Wesleyan College, where he was serving his first VISTA term in The Center for Service-Learning & Civic Engagement. He spent time coordinating Days of Service, Alternative Breaks, and service-learning curriculum. Colin is excited to work with Compact members and VISTAs across the state to further strong civic engagement and community service principles, as well as building capacity and area partnerships.
Colin is a 2011 graduate of Bowling Green State University (Bowling
Green, Ohio) where he studied criminal justice.
