                                                          Iowa's Leaders Today

                                                          The Iowa Campus Compact Iowa's Leaders Today project provides sub-grants to member campuses to implement  community-based service-learning projects with college students and K-12 youth.

                                                          Sites selected include:

                                                          Buena Vista University/Storm Lake Middle School, Buena Vista County
                                                          Coe College/McKinley Middle School, Linn County
                                                          Central College/Madison Elementary, Marion County

                                                          Loras College/Dubuque Art Center, Dubuque County
                                                          University of Iowa/West High School, Johnson County

                                                          This one-time grant project has ended, here are some of our results!
                                                          • 384 new youth engaged in service-learning
                                                          • 389 volunteers engaged in Days of Service projects
                                                          • Students at the University of Iowa started a community garden in Iowa City for students at the university and residents of the Iowa City Shelter House.
                                                          • Students at Central College developed curriculum for September 11 national day of service and implemented the lessons with the 2nd grade students on September 12. The 2nd graders decorated bags to be utilized in the day of service project and the college students and 2nd graders together conducted the project at Care Bags headquarters in nearby Jasper County.
                                                          • In commemoration of 9/11 McKinley Middle School students in Cedar Rapids wrote letters to troops in Afghanistan. These letters were then packed into care packages for more than 30 soldiers. Coe College students raised money and donations for the care packages and also gathered names of local soldiers to whom they could send the care packages.
                                                          • The Dubuque Art Center offered a free digital storytelling and digital literacy workshop run by youth
                                                            that demonstrated to family members how to use digital media to tell and share their stories.
                                                          • Students from Buena Vista University and Storm Lake Middle School participated in Make a Difference day and made blankets for those in need in our community. The project involved college students and middle school students volunteering together.
