Coaching Circles for Civic Engagement Leaders
Are you responsible for leading (directing, coordinating, championing) campus-community partnerships and/or service-learning efforts at your campus? Would you like to come together with colleagues regularly to provide mutual support and coaching?
Building on several very successful program models, Iowa Campus Compact is offering regular coaching calls for member campus staff. Over the course of each two-hour circle, every participant will have time devoted to the issue or challenge s/he chooses to raise that day, as well as time to listen closely to others and practice asking powerful questions.
With questions, please email Julie Plaut with Minnesota Campus Compact or call her at 612-436-2081.
Testimony from 2010-11 participants:
"I have found these coaching conversations useful and practical. I do not have to travel long distances to connect with other practitioners in the field. This was a great way to focus on issues that impact our work and learn best practices to employ immediately. In the end, this will benefit our students and our communities!" -- Marah Jacobson-Schulte, College of St. Benedict/St. John's University
"It has been great connecting with others across the state who work in Civic Engagement & Service Learning. Sharing best practices and challenges, and the feedback received has been very helpful. It is amazing all the great work that is taking place in Minnesota!" -- Rebecca Best, Central Lakes College
"Consulting fees can be outrageous! The coaching circle allows you beneficial time to network and consult with colleagues in the region who understand the day to day challenges of civic and expertiential education. Together, you can map solutions and expand resources beyond just a conference session or a two day consultant. The monthly calls allow you to dig deeper into various issues, go to your campus tryout solutions, come back and assess the development a month later with peers." -- Mandi McReynolds, Coe College
"The Coaching Circle gave me the opportunity to ask questions and to learn from people who I not only thought of as peers, but also as mentors. The support I received was invaluable and truly helped me while we were restructuring our service-learning program at AIB College of Business." -- Julie Spicer, AIB College of Business
