2010-2011 Campus ICAP Application
Attached (below) you will find the application process to participate in the Iowa Campus Compact AmeriCorps Program (ICAP) during the 2010-2011 academic year.
The Iowa Campus Compact AmeriCorps Program (ICAP) started in 2007 as a three-year grant with the purpose of increasing the volunteer rate of college students in Iowa and meeting community needs. In 2007, Iowa was ranked 17th for its college student volunteer rate and by 2008 ranked 6th in the college age demographic.
2010-2011 starts an entirely new grant with the goal of not only engaging students in volunteering and meeting community needs, but also assessing the impact of students volunteering on their likelihood of staying in Iowa after graduation.
The Iowa Campus Compact AmeriCorps Program (ICAP) provides college students with the opportunity to volunteer 300 or 450 hours in their local campus community. Upon successfully completing service, members receive a $1,000 or $1,250 Segal AmeriCorps Education Award for tuition or eligible student loans.
Only Iowa Campus Compact member institutions are eligible to apply. If selected, there is no cost to participate.
A technical assistance call will take place Friday, June 25 at 9 a.m. via conference call line 712-451-6100 passcode 867078#. This is strongly recommended for sites applying that have never participated in the program.
Questions regarding the program and application process should be submitted no later than Wednesday, July 14 torachel.manuel@gmail.com. For reference purposes, attached is a 2010-11 Member Contract, which details many program policies and procedures. The contract could change before the program year starts Sept. 1, 2010.
There will be a mandatory webinar for selected participating campuses tentatively scheduled for Friday, Aug. 6 2010 from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. The Campus/Site Supervisor(s) must attend. A student or VISTA member does not fill this role. If a VISTA member is assisting in the coordination of ICAP on your campus they should also attend the webinar, but the actual Campus Supervisor(s) must be in attendance.
Applications to participate and a signed Memorandum of Agreement are due no later than Friday July 23, 2010. Applications may be submitted at anytime on or before July 23 to Rachel Manuel or at Central College, 812 University St, Box 0133, Pella, IA 50219.
