During the annual Iowa Campus Compact “Celebrating Campus & Community Engagement” conference the above mentioned awards will be given away. This is a new initiative that is seeking to recognize faculty, staff, students and community partners for the work that they do to support and enhance service-learning and civic engagement on their campuses and within their communities. We are seeking individuals to help name, design, and select these awards, if you are interested please contact the IACC office.

Howard Swearer Student Humanitarian Awards
Each year since 1987, Campus Compact member presidents are invited to nominate one student for this prestigious award. Five students are selected to receive this distinguished award for their outstanding public service along with $1,500 to help strengthen or sustain the service program of their design or choice

Newman Award
The Frank Newman Leadership designed to support students with financial need who have shown civic leadership potential through public and community service and scholastic achievement. The award provides financial support and mentorship to help students achieve their civic and academic goals. Two awards are available to undergraduate students at Campus Compact member colleges and universities; one from a 2-year institution and one from a 4-year institution.

Thomas Ehrlich Faculty Award for Service Learning
The Thomas Ehrlich Faculty Award for Service-Learning recognizes and honors one faculty member each year for contributing to the integration of community or public service into the curriculum and for efforts to institutionalize service-learning. The award is named in honor of Thomas Ehrlich, former chair of the Campus Compact board of directors and president emeritus of Indiana University. Nominations due 5:00 pm February, 17, 2006.

One award of $2,000 will be granted to a faculty member from a Campus Compact member institution. Ten finalists will also be selected and recognized. The award recipient will be notified in the spring of 2006. The presentation of the award will take place at the Educators for Community Engagement National Gathering (ECE), June 14-17, 2006. The recipient will also be recognized at Campus Compact’s 20th Anniversary Gala in Chicago, IL on October 17, 2006. Travel and other expenses for the recipient will be provided.
